WALKING TOGETHER THROUGH AGLO’s SYNODAL JOURNEY
What's next?
The deadline for all reflections for the Archdiocese of Chicago is April 1. 2022. During the final week of March we will be collecting all of the data from the AGLO Portal and the Listening Sessions and summarizing the information as a final report to the Archdiocese Pastoral Council, (the council made up of diverse members who assists the Archdiocese in understanding the needs of the parishes and their parishioners and provides feedback on proposed activities, initiatives, and events). Our report will then be synthesized into the document that will be presented to the United States Catholic Council of Bishops. A final document from the USCCB will be presented to the Vatican.
It may sound like our LGBTQ+ stories and dreams written down in this report will be like a drop of rain lost in the vast ocean and then forgotten. But we need to be hopeful that this first Synod will be a seed planted, nourished by our community and Church, then allowed to flourish and move from the margins to the center as equal to all members of the Universal Church. This is just the first step. Will you continue to walk with AGLO on this exciting journey? We are here to accompany you.
Finally, we want to sincerely thank, in advance, everyone who will bravely share their personal stories. We know that for many it can be overwhelming and devastating to bring up past or present trauma. We hope that those of you who are suffering know that we stand in solidarity with you and hope you have felt heard and loved.
For those of you who have left the Church, we sincerely hope that you have found a life-giving Spiritual home somewhere. Perhaps this Synodal experience has awakened a new desire to seek out Catholic community and a greater calling to participate. Our door is always open and you are always welcome here.
