A Retreat for LGBTQ+ Catholics to Help Heal and Reconcile
What does it mean to be LGBTQ+ and Catholic? That will be the focus of a five-week online spiritual retreat this fall presented by AGLOChicago and Loyola University’s Institute of Pastoral Studies (IPS). The program will reflect on how to reconcile and unify these often-competing identities.
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come back again and take you to myself, so that
where I am you also may be." -John 14:3
Overview
Calling all persons of Catholic faith who identify as LGBTQ+! This retreat serves to examine what it means to be both Catholic and LGBTQ+ in an increasingly diverse socioreligious context. Steeped in biblical tradition, the retreat offers safe and sacred space for authentic sharing and personal vulnerability, a judgment-free zone! If you feel you do not have a place in our Church, then this retreat is for you, an affirmation that you DO! Please join us for what is sure to be a life-changing experience of God’s unconditional love!
In this five-week series, we will:
-
Encounter the person of Christ, Jesus, who welcomes and embraces us all!
-
Examine specific texts from Sacred Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, that help us understand God’s desire to be with those present “on the margins”!
-
Build authentic community by sharing in rich, meaningful discussion!

Kevin Pease, MTS, serves as director for IPS Scripture School at Loyola University Chicago.
Prior to his hire in 2018, Kevin taught for five years in the Religious Studies Department of Mercy High School, San Francisco, an all-girls private Catholic school maintained by the Sisters of Mercy. Courses taught included “Foundations of Religious Studies,” “Hebrew & Christian Scriptures,” and “Social Justice”. He credits his experience with his students and the Sisters of Mercy for instilling in him a passion for teaching.
Previously, Kevin earned a master’s degree in Theological Studies, concentration Bible, from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. His final synthesis paper focused on Trinitarian relationship, a topic for which he remains engaged and in which roots his theological perspective today.
